Rada's non-touch solution enables The Wrigley Company's Australian facility to reduce water consumption and improve hygiene and comfort for its production staff.
The Wrigley Company is the world¦s largest manufacturer of chewing and bubble gum and home to some of the best-known brands in the world, including Juicy Fruit®, P.K®, Extra® and Hubba Bubba® bubble gum. The company has been a part of the global confectionery industry since 1891, and is well respected for product quality, occupational health and safety, and environmental policies.
The project
Wrigley's employees require high levels of hygiene, washing hands for a minimum of 30 seconds when moving between lunchroom and processing areas. A no-touch system was required for two new hand wash troughs to be installed in an airlock between the two rooms, providing a hygienic solution with tempered water for additional user comfort.
Wrigley's commitment to Sydney Water's "Every Drop Counts Business Program" meant that the solution also had to reduce water consumption.
The solution
Thornthwaite liased with Warwick Swain, a contracted maintenance plumber for Wrigley. Warwick had been tasked with installing the new troughs, and after discussing washroom requirements, we proposed the installation of the Rada Pulse System, using Rada 120 Sensors and Rada 215 thermostatic mixing valves to provide blended water supplies.
Rada Pulse allows users to activate water flow by holding their hand in front of no-touch wall-mounted sensor. A signal is sent to the Rada Control Box to signal the solenoid valve to start water flow, which shuts off automatically after 30 seconds. Thermostatic mixing valves regulate the temperature of blended water supplies, providing safe and comfortable washing for users.
The system incorporates an adjustable flow time to multiple outlets through a single handheld programming unit, thus reducing maintenance time and controlled water efficiency.
